Recently took a much loved family pet to be put to sleep, been using this vets for years and previously had other pets put to sleep and been treated with respect and compassion. The vet we saw was very mindful of the situation and compassionate. No problems there. On leaving the practice however, in an obvious upset state we asked if we could settle the bill on collection of the ashes, to which they replied that was okay.Imagine getting a phone call 2 days later to say that the man was collecting 4 other bodies but not your beloved pet as the bill hadn't been paid and unless the bill was paid your pet wouldn't be taken. Somebody needs to talk about how to deal with grieving clients in a sympathetic and compassionate manner, especially an old lady in her 80s who had this pet as her sole companion for the last 7 years.
